December 2025 Tax Deadlines for Individuals

As we wrap up 2025, it's crucial for individuals to tackle essential tax tasks—from year-end strategies to IRA withdrawals. Stay informed with our comprehensive guide this December.

December 1 - Kickstart Year-End Tax Planning

December marks the final opportunity to optimize your 2025 tax outcome. Have you experienced significant income shifts, changed your marital status, or sold key assets this year? It might be time to book a tax strategy session to ensure you’re maximizing your financial planning opportunities.

December 10 - Report Tips to Your Employer

If November's tips exceeded $20, you must report them via IRS Form 4070 by December 10. Employers will withhold necessary taxes, but if your paycheck doesn't cover these, the shortfall will be noted on your W-2. Prepare to address this when you file your return.

December 31 - Final Chance for Mandatory IRA Withdrawals

Individuals born before January 1, 1952, have until December 31 to execute mandatory withdrawals from Traditional IRAs without facing penalties. If you turned 73 in 2025, your first required distribution is due, though postponement until April 1, 2026, is permissible. Plan ahead if your financial institution will be closed on December 31.

December 31 - Deadline for Deductible Expense Payments

December 31 stands as the cutoff for paying deductible expenses for tax year 2025, with the exception of IRA, SEP, or Keogh contributions which extend beyond year-end. Ensure actions needing more than a day are initiated timely, considering potential year-end financial closures.
